Stories from Grateful Patients: Angela

In Her Own Words...
"Hi, my name is Angela. I live in Maryland with my daughter. In October of last year, I was experiencing intense pain and went to the local ER. They said I had an umbilical hernia, gave me medicine for pain management, and recommended that I should reach out to a surgeon. I managed to get an appointment with a surgeon at the local hospital, only for the surgeon to tell me it would be too risky because of my weight. Two other surgeons told me the same thing."
"As time went on, the pain I was experiencing kept flaring up. It wasn't as bad as when it sent me to the ER, but it definitely had a negative effect on my quality of life. Finally, I found a hospital that would do the surgery for the umbilical hernia and bariatric surgery at the same time. This was my chance to create a better life for myself and my daughter. Unfortunately, the hospital was in Hagerstown, a two-hour drive away from my home."
"Mercy Medical Angels sent me gas cards. Thanks to them, I was able to afford the drives to surgery and my follow-up appointments. My quality of life has improved drastically since receiving the surgery in June 2025. I am so, so grateful to Mercy Medical Angels for mailing me the gas cards. If it were not for them, I wouldn't have been able to afford getting to my medical appointments."
"Everyone I have interacted with has been so helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. I am truly grateful for this organization and everyone who is a part of it. Thank you so much for this immense blessing - and for giving me and my daughter the gift of a new and better life."
