Stories from Grateful Patients: Imogene

Kidney disease patient after receiving organ transplant

In Her Own Words...

“I have kidney cancer and end-stage renal disease. Almost every day, I have multiple medical appointments with different doctors. This includes chemo twice a week, and dialysis three times a week.”

“Doctors said I would need a kidney transplant to survive, and hopefully increase my quality of life. This would be available towards the end of September. I would need to go to different appointments every day that month to prepare for the kidney transplant.”

“I only receive social security as a set income. After bills, I can’t afford transportation to my medical appointments. Also, treatment causes a lot of strain on my body, so I can’t drive myself often. Sometimes I feel like I’m becoming a burden by asking my caregiver to drive me to all these appointments.”

“Mercy Medical Angels sent me gas cards so that I could afford the long drives to treatment. That helped me to maintain my physical and mental wellness. I received my kidney transplant at the end of September, thanks to Mercy Medical Angels. So far, it’s working, and my quality of life is already improving. I can’t begin to describe how grateful I am. Thank you, Mercy Medical Angels!”
