Stories from Grateful Patients: Nikolai

June 2, 2025

In His Own Words...

"My name is Nikolai. Three years ago, I married my childhood sweetheart. Shortly after the wedding, though, I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. This subsequently led to Stage 3 liver cancer, surgery, and ongoing treatments that I will need for the rest of my life."

"I drive to five different medical centers every month for various treatments, labs, scans, and check-ups. This doesn't include picking up medication."

"The problem with all this driving is that I'm unemployed. My wife can't work because she's currently my full-time caregiver. We have no savings left. Although I receive SSDI, it barely covers food and bills. It's not enough to cover the costs of gas as well."

"Mercy Medical Angels sent us gas cards. The gas cards made it possible for me to keep all my medical appointments. This assistance helped me maintain my physical and mental wellness and have better financial stability."

"On behalf of my wife and myself, I wish to thank all of you there at Mercy Medical Angels. Your services are great and I really appreciate what you do for me and other cancer patients. Again, I thank you."
