Veteran Accesses Equine-Assisted Therapy With Flight Assistance

Double The Struggles

Margaret is a Veteran who lives in Maryland. Recently, she was struggling with her mental health. She went to a doctor to find out what was going on. After scans and tests, Margaret was diagnosed with two service-related conditions: a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

One Problem After Another

Due to her conditions, it was deemed unsafe for Margaret to drive. She had to rely on friends and family members to drive her to her appointments at a medical center that specialized in treating brain injuries. But even though she was seeking care, PTSD was still wreaking havoc on her life. She needed to look at other modalities of treatment for that.

Hope Found

Not one to give up the fight for health, Margaret jumped into research with help from her doctor. She found out about equine-assisted therapy at Quantum Leap Farm. Her doctor helped her to apply, and she was accepted to the program!

From Stumbling...

Just one problem remained, and it would be difficult to solve. Quantum Leap Farm is in Florida - almost 820 miles from Margaret's home in Maryland. She couldn't afford round-trip airfare, and none of her friends or family could drive that far. It felt like Margaret was stumbling, with nowhere to turn for help.

...To Galloping

Nowhere to turn, that is, until Mercy Medical Angels' program for Veterans entered Margaret's life. Mercy Medical Angels arranged and paid for flights on Southwest for Margaret. Now, she was able to go to Quantum Leap Farm for equine-assisted therapy. She had gone from stumbling at the start, to galloping into the winner's circle. Margaret said of her experience with Mercy Medical Angels and Southwest, "My flight was great. I didn't have any issues."

"Thank You For My Flight..."

When Margaret was asked what she would say about Mercy Medical Angels' program for Veterans, her answer spilled over with gratitude and relief. "Thank you for my flight, because it allowed me to get the necessary care that helped me heal from my trauma. Thank you for assisting Veterans like me to fly, so we can get the care we need. Honestly, I'd recommend you to anyone in my situation."
