Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic Announces 2021 Pilots of the Year

Volunteer pilots who fly for national nonprofit recognized for flying patients to life-changing, life-saving medical care

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – February 7, 2022 – More than 680 pilots across ten states volunteer for Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic. They donate their time and aircraft so that patients in need can fly to life-saving care at no cost. Each year, the pilots who fly the most missions receive the “Pilot of the Year” award for their state or for the entire Mid-Atlantic service area. Eleven pilots are selected for this award.

The Pilots of the Year for 2021 are as follows:

Mid-Atlantic Region: David Linton

Virginia: Edward Fiscella

West Virginia: Kevin Murphy

North Carolina: Philip Rash

Tennessee: Robert “Bob” Briggs

Kentucky: John Witt

Maryland: George Jones

Delaware: Andrew Diffley

Ohio: Andrew Burger

Michigan: Steve Seidman

Pennsylvania: Richard “RT” Linsenbach

The numbers for 2021 speak to the effort that Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic's volunteer pilots put forth every day. They provided 748 free trips to critical medical care for children, cancer patients, Veterans, and their families. The total distance of all their missions was 137,702 miles.

But the real impact can’t be measured in numbers. The patients that Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic serves are what keep the mission going. Kierney’s story offers an example of a life Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic changed for the better. Kierney was diagnosed with three major conditions that caused her great pain and limited her mobility. After three unsuccessful neurosurgeries, her last option was a specialist located in New York. Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic bridged the gap. Kierney’s parents said, “Both sets of pilots were caring, helpful and of the utmost professionalism. Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic made Kierney’s care possible!”
