Charitable Gas Cards Save Cancer Patient’s Life

Mercy Medical Angels saves cancer patient's life with gas cards

Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

“On April 7, 2022, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.” This is how Amparo begins to tell her story. So far, she’s had three surgeries – a partial mastectomy of her left breast and removing two lymph nodes.

But the cancer wasn’t giving up so easily. Amparo’s oncologist told her she would also need chemotherapy and radiation.

It Gets Worse...

The breast cancer was in an early stage, but it began to spread to other parts of Amparo’s body. She started chemotherapy in November 2022, which continued into the new year.

After that, she was prescribed multiple sessions of radiation. Then her health took a turn for the worse. She ended up in the hospital with heart problems and a respiratory illness.

Amparo’s husband would drive her to and from the oncologist’s office. She was grateful for this, as the treatments drained her energy. But the frequent trips drained something else: her family’s financial resources.

Driving back and forth, multiple times a week, was quickly becoming too expensive. But if Amparo couldn’t travel to her treatments, she would die.

How would Amparo access life-saving care?

...Then It Gets Better

That was when Amparo found out about Mercy Medical Angels. The nonprofit sent her gas cards, so she could afford the cost of driving to and from her treatments.

“My husband and I are very grateful,” said Amparo, “because we will be able to pay for gasoline during my treatment.”

It’s one less thing for Amparo and her family to worry about. Now, she can focus on healing.

“Organizations Like Yours Make a Huge Difference...”

Amparo has to start radiation treatment soon. This will require more traveling. But this time, she can keep her eyes set on getting better. Mercy Medical Angels will continue to help her until she’s in remission – just like they have helped thousands like her.

“Organizations like yours make a huge difference for cancer patients like me,” said Amparo. “Thank you for all your financial support, your love, and your mission.”

“God bless you, and keep up the good work!”
