Stories from Grateful Patients: Amy

Woman with nerve paralysis in her arm after receiving operation, thanks to charitable flights

In Her Own Words...

"My name is Amy, and I live in a rural area of California. When I was born, one of my shoulders got stuck. This led to a brachial plexus injury. In other words, the nerves that connect my spinal cord to my arm and shoulder don't work like they should. I learned to compensate for that side of my body being weaker and less coordinated."

"As I got older, those nerves would flare up in pain. Doctors agreed I would need surgery to correct this. The best surgeon to treat my problem is in Houston, almost 1,600 miles away from my hometown. I would have normally been able to afford the cost of traveling to medical care. But then, I got hit with a bunch of medical bills, plus a high home insurance bill because I live in a wildfire zone. I wouldn't be able to afford round-trip tickets on top of those expenses."

"That was when I found out about Mercy Medical Angels. They arranged and paid for my flights on American Airlines. With their help, I was able to receive the surgery I needed."

"I am so incredibly thankful. Thank you, Mercy Medical Angels!"
