Stories From Grateful Patients: Valerie

In Her Own Words...
“My name is Valerie. I live in a small town near Houston, Texas. In 2017, I was diagnosed with leukemia. The hospitals in my hometown couldn’t help me. My doctor referred me to City of Hope in Chicago, Illinois, which is more than 1,000 miles away.”
“I’m retired and on disability. I couldn’t afford a round-trip flight, let alone as many flights as I needed for routine treatment. But I couldn’t drive that far either. I didn’t know what to do or where to turn for help.”
“Mercy Medical Angels arranged for me to fly to and from my treatment on Southwest Airlines. I didn’t have to pay. When I had to go back, they kindly arranged more flights for me. Here it is, 2023, and they’re still helping me. My flights were great and everything worked out. It’s safe to say that Mercy Medical Angels is the reason I’m still alive.”
