Man Accesses Kidney Cancer Treatment Using Gas Cards

Battles Behind, Battles Ahead
In 2019, Marcial was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors managed to put it in remission through extensive surgery, immunotherapy, and medication. Marcial had to go for routine scans and checkups to make sure the cancer wouldn't return. They all came back cancer-free - until this year, when they found a tumor growing in his left kidney.
On The Road Again
Marcial isn't the sort of person who gives up easily. He began to research what treatments he would need, and where would be best to get them. His looking around led him to Southwest Cancer Center in Lubbock, Texas. Unfortunately, the hospital was over 120 miles away from his home in Midland, Texas. "I'm on a disability check, no other income," said Marcial, "so driving to treatment every two to three weeks is financially hard." He'd have to get on the road again if he wanted to survive - but how?
Roadblocks Removed
That was when Marcial's research took a new turn. He found out about Mercy Medical Angels, applied for ground transportation assistance, and was approved. Mercy Medical Angels sent him gas cards. Now, he didn't have to worry about the cost of gas for his frequent, long-distance drives to treatment. "The gas cards take financial strain off my family and myself," said Marcial. "As we know, battling cancer is already rough. But the team at Mercy Medical Angels is helping to relieve the stress. I'm forever thankful for them!"
